New In - Jun 23

Say hello to your June recommendations. We’ve delved deep into an interior design dark hole, ready to pounce on wine-tasting tickets and eyeing up an old collaboration for a new purchase.

Homing In

A natural evolution from the original podcast by The Modern House, Homing In is the new rendition of the design-led estate agency's audio interview series. It explores the life stories of fascinating people through the lens of 'home.' Whether it be their childhood homes, where they currently reside, or fantasising over their future living spaces, hosted by Matt Gibberd, TMH co-founder and author of A Modern Way to Live, the podcast is an extension of everything the company offers: well-designed homes, an online journal for rich reading, and a directory serving as a sourcebook for modern living.

King Richard

A biographical exploration of the inspiring rise of Venus and Serena Williams through the lens of their father and coach, Richard, whose relentless, unorthodox grit fuels their greatness. Anchored by Will Smith’s Academy Award-winning performance, it’s a sweat-drenched portrait of ambition and family, depicting the childhood of the two greatest women tennis powerhouses of all time. It’s a testament to true hard work, indomitable determination and a nod to the American Dream. The sisters were both credited as executive producers of the film, and Beyoncé fronted the original song Be Alive. What’s not to like?

Jil Sander x BIRKENSTOCK

We're in the market for a new pair of BIRKENSTOCK shoes, so we're looking back to the iconic partnership between the brand and Jil Sander, which launched a few years ago. Lucie and Luke Meier, Creative Directors behind JL, reimagined some of their classic designs (alongside introducing a new one) as a new release within their Jil Sander+ line, drawing on their upbringing in the Swiss Alps, Canada and taking inspiration from life outside the city and nature. Neutral colour palettes of cream, olive, and black embody the sophisticated JL aesthetic. Comfort, quality, and style are what unify the collaboration.

Petalon

Founded by Florence Kennedy in East London, they relocated Petalon to Cornwall in lockdown and started growing their flowers across 85 acres of land. Their bouquets are packaged in biodegradable or recyclable materials, they compost all of their green waste for use on the farm, and 100% of their profits are donated to conservation projects in the UK. What originally started as a bicycle delivery service has now expanded to serving homegrown, beautiful, affordable flowers across the UK via. their carbon-neutral courier. They switch up the designs weekly so those with subscriptions can enjoy a fresh bunch.

Great Wrap

The revolutionary sustainable solution to single-use cling film. Great Wrap is a game-changer as it's made from food waste, a mix of compostable biopolymers; it moulds to any shape and eliminates plastic waste due to being biodegradable, breaking down in under 180 days. The company has a 10-year vision to reduce plastic use and launched Great Lab, the innovation strand continuing to analyse potential solutions based on science.

NOWNESS: In Residence

In Residence, NOWNESS’s visual poetry for the design-obsessed dives into the lives and spaces of the world’s most inspired architects, interior designers and artists. An elevated version of a stereotypical home tour, this series is more like cinematography than a candid blog-style video, short films worthy of awards in their own right. It’s not just homes – it’s philosophies rendered in glass, concrete, and brick. Expect intimate storytelling that peels back architecture’s most human, vulnerable forms. Our most watched; Sophie Hicks, Rose Uniacke, Emile Rafael, Ray Kappe and Jim Olson. And yes, we do repeat them.

The Meyerowitz Stories

The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected) dissects the fractured dynamics of an eccentric artistic family set in New York. Featuring sharp performances by Dustin Hoffman, Adam Sandler, Ben Stiller, and Emma Thompson, the film oscillates between caustic humour and bittersweet vulnerability, weaving sibling rivalries, parental failings, and the quest for validation – primarily through the father figure’s failing career as a sculptor. This comedy-drama takes you through the streets of NYC and is award-winning at the Cannes Film Festival. An exquisite script and superb direction by Noah Baumbach. Where to watch? Netflix

homework

One of our most-loved lifestyle brands, homework, just re-launched with a new and refined collection of products, incl. candles and oil blends. A refinement of their offering and processes has led to a series of reimagined fragrances aligning with five elements of Traditional Chinese Medicine - Fire, Metal, Wood, Earth, and Water. homework is all about balance and nature, a nod to ancient Chinese philosophy and co-founder Stephanie's heritage. They are also members of 1% For The Planet and donate 1% of their annual sales to environmental causes.

Dalston Wine Club

We've tried to include DWC in our monthly roundups before, but it's impossible to coincide with a new ticket 'drop' because it sells out immediately. Let us put the Dalston Wine Club on your radar, and we'll leave you to scramble for a spot. Brain-child of Scottish, London-based wine writer Hannah Crosbie, DWC is for the new generation of wine drinkers. Drinking, talking, and learning about wine in an unpretentious setting is what we love. It's a 'tasting event, reimagined,’ and she knows her stuff. Catch her on TV as a wine presenter, at Soho House doing bespoke events or writing in high-profile publications, The Sunday Times, Frieze, and Evening Standard, to name a few.

Pretend It's A City

Those who know us will not be surprised to hear we have recently re-watched Pretend It's A City. Despite coming to our screens in 2021, this would have been recommended sooner had New Journo been up and running. Directed by a long-time friend (and, of course, critically acclaimed) Martin Scorsese, the documentary follows a candid form of New Yorker, writer, and public speaker Fran Lebowitz being interviewed, discussing everything from sport to transport, with the majority centred around life in the Big Apple. She is unapologetically honest, brutal, and judgemental but never short of common sense. Please watch it, it's great.
