New In - Mar 23

As Spring approaches, we’re sharing the list of things we love for this March: one of the best markets for second-hand furniture shopping, an online archive for some of the most prolific cultural institutions, a handy utensil, and our latest coffee obsession.

The Spotlight Market

This is our go-to-market for interior shopping, and it returns this weekend (11, 12 March) at MKII, East London. A more circular way to shop, each dealer has a carefully curated collection of one-off items and houses sellers who source furniture from different decades, which means, regardless of your style, you’ll be sure to find something that fits your aesthetic.

Niwaki Toribe Kitchen Scissors

They’ve been part of the extensive Niwaki roster of products for years, but they've been sold out for months – estimated to be back in stock on March 31. We rave about them because they’re not just pretty utensils. They’re dishwasher-friendly (great) and can be deconstructed to make cleaning between the blades easier.

MD Paper: Midori Notebook

This is the sleekest notebook you’ll ever find. It has 368 plain white pages to choose from, and if you’re messy, MD also sells a clear protective slip that slides over the cover to help avoid marks. Not only does the exposed spine look visually pleasing, but it’s more technical than that. The spine's flexibility allows both sides to be flat, making for a much easier writing experience.

Tár

Led by Cate Blanchett and produced, written and directed by filmmaker Todd Field, Tár is the newest psychological drama that has taken over the nominations during this award season. The film follows the decline of fictional chief conductor Lydia Tár, the first female in the role at Berlin Philharmonic; the achievement is overshadowed by her manipulative behaviour and abusing her privilege to power. On a lighter note, the film is a feast for the eyes with slick, tailored wardrobes, architecture and interiors that capture minimalism and brutalism across Germany and New York and a stunning score compiled by Icelandic musician Hildur Guðnadóttir, who is known for her enchanting, dark compositions.

Andi Walker: Stitched Stories

If you’re at Yorkshire Sculpture Park between now and the 25 June, you have to drop into the YSP Centre - don’t just stick to the outside installations. Stitched Stories is a textile work by Andi Walker, following on from their previous exhibition, On Queer Ground, at the Bothy Gallery last year. Weekly sessions were held to capture memories. Meanwhile, the participants made marks on paper beneath the desk that followed the rhythms of the story. Andi translated this into a quilt through the dashes and dots on display and the many original documentations on paper.

The Reluctant Traveler

The latest TV series we’re streaming is the newest of the travel documentaries. This time on Apple TV+, The Reluctant Traveler follows Eugene Levy touring the world’s stunning destinations spanning Costa Rica, Finland, Italy, Japan, Maldives, Portugal, South Africa and the USA. This is escapism at its finest, wandering through incredible places, hotels and immersing himself in local culture. Reluctant because he hates to travel, which makes for quite an interesting watch, especially when Eugene gets exposed to 21st-century quirks like ice plunges and cold water swimming.

Internet Archive: Guggenheim

The Internet Archive is a non-profit, free digital library of cultural artefacts. We’ve jumped straight into its Guggenheim archive, which houses books from many eras, artist retrospectives from Josef Albers, Mark Rothko, and Lucio Fontana, exhibition catalogues, and more published works.

PIN by Resinn

Resinn is a soon-to-launch coffee roastery and concept store coming to Sunderland later this year. Headed up by Kate & Erik, they have just launched their first coffee release, PIN, which gives us a fig, blood orange and milk chocolate palette. If you want a taster of the physical store's appearance, their home renovation provides the perfect teaser. Orders via. DM for now!

Bao

It’s a Bao speciality restaurant but with a twist. Take yourself off to enjoy a sing-song in one of their Karaoke rooms at their Noodle Shop or Borough locations. But if you really do just want to dine, that’s perfectly fine, too. The DIY ordering style consists of you marking your requests on a small menu, which is swiftly taken to the kitchen and has some of the best bao buns you’ll ever taste.

REV On Air

An open and honest podcast that delves into the world of sustainable living, hosted by Reve En Vert co-founder Cora Hilts. From business owners to chefs, photographers and activists, the guests and Cora hold inspiring conversations about regenerative farming, plant-based eating, the future of fashion and how we can improve the world.
